About WhatSpiked
WhatSpiked is a weekly explainer about technology, AI, and internet culture. Every week we pick a handful of topics that suddenly spiked in attention, a new AI tool, a viral app, a big-tech move, an online moment, and explain, in plain language, why it spiked and what it means.
How we work
Our research is AI-assisted: we use AI tools to scan trends, gather context, and draft explanations quickly. Every piece is then reviewed and edited by a human editor before publishing. We aim for clarity and accuracy over volume, we would rather publish a few genuinely useful explainers than flood the page with thin posts.
When we get something wrong, we correct it. If you spot an error, please get in touch.
Who is "Kai"?
You'll see our pieces bylined Kai. Kai is the house voice of the WhatSpiked desk, the consistent editorial persona behind our explainers, not a claim to be a specific individual reporter. Behind that byline is an AI-assisted research process with a human editor who reviews every piece before it goes live and takes responsibility for it.
What we are not
We are not breaking-news reporters and we are not financial, legal, or medical advisors. Explainers are for general understanding, not professional advice.
